Hipkiss: “We were in our early teens when punk ripped the British music scene apart at the seams. It was all too brief, but it shaped us. When we met in London soon afterwards, its influence was something we knew we shared; our lifelong DIY art project — Hipkiss — was born.

Years before drawing was fully embraced as a form of contemporary art in its own right, we were focused on elevating doodling to a new level. Alpha’s construction of narratives married well with Chris’ penchant for hard graft. Endless conversations fuelled a process of expansion and refinement that is the essence of our work to this day.

We live and work in the countryside but remain fascinated by the socio-political landscapes of urban environments; the combination draws us inexorably to explore the hinterland between the two.
