The dark shadow of a broad male figure appears against a background of vertical stripes in white and red. This creates the impression that we are looking into backlight. We see no markings on the face or body. An earthly painting that is built up of various coloured layers of paint: white-red-white-brown in short, rough strokes and smudges. Colours blend together to form the male body. All layers remain translucent due to their streaking. The stocky man carries a stained white animal upon his chest. Or is he presenting the animal straight up, in profile, its legs outstretched? Are we witness to a tender gesture or a solemn ritual act, an animal sacrifice? The figures are faceless. Shocking photos and film footage of Nazi concentration camps had an enormous effect on him.
