Bonaria Manca e suo cane

Manca, Bonaria

Marianne Kooijman tells in detail about her visits to Bonaria: “On entering Bonaria’s house in Tuscania, we are greeted with song. Manca is wearing her own ‘haute-couture’: an ‘ensemble’ of self-spun wool and flamboyant scarves around her head. She treats us to Sardinian cheese and wine, while legs of mutton are roasting over the open fire, her only source of heating. On the hallstand hang several colourful woollen coats, which she made herself using intricate techniques; they are real works of art in themselves. She puts them on and shows them to us outside, because, as she gestures, you can see the effect better from there.”
